Things to do in Abha
Abha is anchored by a lively town centre. The mud-walled Shadda Palace sits in the heart of the city and was built in the early 1800s. Today it houses a local handicrafts museum where you'll find a colourful collection of woven baskets and beaded jewellery.
Topped by craggy mountains, Asir National Park is one of Saudi Arabia's most treasured green spaces. Scenic trails wind their way through thick juniper forests, with adventurous hikers making a beeline for Jabal Soodah peak. The park is a birdwatcher's paradise, with the chance to spot over 170 species.
Abha is dotted with bustling souqs that have been doing business for centuries. Souq Al Thulatha is famous for its handicrafts, while the Thursday Market sells some of the region's best gold and silver Bedouin jewellery. You can also pick up embroidered clothing, frankincense and other treasures.
For a quintessential Abha experience, drive up the scenic road to Green Mountain. Keep an eye out for Arabian baboons on the side of the road. The peak is crowned by a scenic cafe where you can enjoy mint tea, freshly rolled falafels and knockout views. It's particularly beautiful at night when you'll get sweeping views over the sparkling city skyline.

The easiest way to get around Abha is by car or using the city’s network of local buses. You can travel to other destinations within Saudi Arabia from the SAPTCO bus station. Abha Regional Airport is around 25 kilometres from the city centre.
