About Dorrigo

From its ancient rainforests to its charming town centre, Dorrigo is a laid-back country town in rural New South Wales. It serves as a gateway to Dorrigo National Park, part of the lush Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area.

Things to do in Dorrigo

Located around one kilometre out of town, Dangar Falls tumbles 120 metres over a series of rocky shelves and into an emerald green pool. There's a shady picnic area to enjoy, while a colourful display of wildflowers blooms during spring.

For a glimpse at Australia's ancient rainforests, don't miss a chance to explore Dorrigo National Park. The Rainforest Centre offers a fantastic overview of the local ecosystem, while the Skywalk commands a bird's-eye view over the lush rainforest canopy. If you want to venture deep into the rainforest, the two-hour Wonga Walk winds its way past ancient trees and tumbling waterfalls.

Stretching for 185 kilometres, Waterfall Way is a scenic drive that climbs up the escarpment to Dorrigo from Bellingen. Along the way, you'll cruise past lush rainforests, dramatic river valleys and cascading waterfalls.

Dorrigo is anchored by a lively town centre where you'll find a cluster of shops, craft stores and cafes. The wood-fired pies from the Dorrigo Bakery are very tempting, while Dorrigo Wholefoods Cafe serves up a smorgasbord of healthy treats. If you're thirsty, sit down for a pint of local ale at the Heritage-listed Hotel Dorrigo.

Getting around Dorrigo

The drive to Dorrigo takes around five hours from Brisbane or Newcastle. The coastal city of Coffs Harbour is just an hour to the east via the stunning Waterfall Way. While the town is easy to navigate on foot, you'll need a car to explore the rest of the region.
